Ceramic Shell & Core Removal
Clean, Safe Waterjet Blasting for Shell & Core Removal
High-pressure waterjet blasting is the ideal solution for ceramic shell and core removal on investment, lost-wax, and plaster castings — in aluminum, steel, titanium, and superalloys alike. It’s clean, safe, and repeatable where chemical leaching and manual blasting are slow, hazardous, and inconsistent.
Shape Process Automation’s fully automated systems remove 99% or more of the shell in a single operation.
Why Choose Waterjet for Shell & Core Removal?
- One process replaces several: A single operation removes both shell and core, eliminating chemical leaching, manual waterblast, and bead blasting.
- Fragile features stay intact: High-pressure water is tuned to knock out shell and clear cores without bending thin walls or rounding sharp edges, leaving the base material undamaged.
- Highly repeatable: Robotized waterjet with proven process parameters delivers consistent, quality results part after part.
- Safer, cleaner operation: No chemical leaching or hazardous manual handling, with reduced noise and no toxic waste.
Key Features of Our CSR Systems
Our shell and core removal system is fully automated and engineered for productivity. High-pressure water can be tuned to perform shell knock-out and core removal in a single pass — removing 99.9% or more of shell while preserving delicate geometry and improving overall throughput with less manpower than traditional methods.
Several CSR models are available to accommodate high-volume, high-mix, and extra-large castings. For cluster cut-off operations, CSR automation can be combined with our Waterjet Machining (WJM) system into a single integrated solution with unmatched productivity, quality, and flexibility.
- Aqualance™-driven processing for significantly faster cycle times
- Fully enclosed machine — contains mist, prevents dripping, protects the operator, and reduces noise
- Ceramic captured in a collector with water drawn off at the low point
- Castings loaded and rotated by a robot-controlled electric motor for full access to every face
- Comprehensive, intuitive user interface for fast part setup and easy reprocessing
Shell & Core Removal for Foundries
Shell removal: In investment (lost-wax) casting, a ceramic shell forms the mold. Once the metal is poured and solidified, the shell must come off. Automated high-pressure waterjet removes 99.9% or more of the shell — eliminating chemical leaching, doing no damage to thin walls or sharp edges, and removing hazardous manual operations from the floor.
Core removal: Inner cavities filled with shell create cores that are notoriously difficult to remove, often requiring long, polluting chemical leaching or hazardous manual work. Precisely directed rotating waterjet clears them with high productivity, no alteration to inner surface finish or geometry, and a pure-water process that’s safer and quieter for operators.
Smart Solution, Easy Operation
A comprehensive, intuitive interface makes operation simple: Set up new parts quickly and run existing part programs with ease. Turnkey systems include automated loading and unloading with high-accuracy positioning and soundproof enclosures.
